TASK hosted the President of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) John Taylor during his maiden African tour on 13 December, 2019 in his quest to understand the actuarial ecosystem in the continent.

Mr Taylor was impressed by the vibrancy of the profession, and the increasing interest of Actuarial Science students to qualify as Fellows.

“It was an honour to be invited by their president, Moses Mutuli, to say a few words at their event in Nairobi. Qualifying is never easy but it can be particularly challenging in a country where the actuarial profession is still developing: the study “ecosystem” is just not as well developed,” he said.

The IFoA President was apprised of the Society’s Actuaries Bill, still in nascent stage, which will recognise the TASK’s oversight role in promoting the activities of actuaries in the country.

“If all goes to plan, the local profession should receive formal recognition from the Kenyan government early this year. This will be a wonderful moment for the local profession, and I’m keeping my finger crossed!” he added.
