The Actuarial Society of Kenya
Code of Conduct
Version 2 · effective 2 June 2026
Operational restatement of the IAA-AAI code, with clearer expectations and an explicit whistleblowing protection. Replaces the placeholder v1.
# Code of Conduct
_Effective 23 May 2026 · The Actuarial Society of Kenya_
This Code is the operational expression of the **IAA-AAI Code of Professional Conduct** adopted by TASK. It binds every member of the Society from the moment of admission and for as long as their membership endures.
## Integrity
Members will act honestly. They will not knowingly mislead a client, employer, regulator, or colleague. They will distinguish between professional opinion and personal view.
## Competence and care
Members will undertake only work for which they have the relevant knowledge, skill, and experience, and will keep that competence current through **CPD**. CPD records must be truthful; falsifying records is a disciplinary offence.
## Compliance
Members will obey the laws of Kenya, the by-laws of the Society, the standards published by the IAA-AAI, and the regulatory regimes of any market in which they practise.
## Impartiality
Members will identify and disclose conflicts of interest as soon as they arise. Where a conflict cannot be managed, the member will withdraw from the work.
## Confidentiality
Members will treat client and employer information as confidential unless disclosure is required by law or expressly authorised. The duty of confidentiality survives the end of an engagement.
## Communication
Members will communicate clearly, with reasoning shown, and with reasonable steps to ensure their audience understands the limits of the work.
## Professional behaviour
Members will conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the reputation of the actuarial profession. Harassment, discrimination, and bullying — in person or online — are incompatible with membership.
## Reporting and discipline
Suspected breaches should be raised with the Council via the Secretariat. The disciplinary procedure (published separately) governs investigation, hearing, and sanction. Sanctions range from caution to expulsion.
## Whistleblowing
A member who, in good faith, reports another's breach of this Code or any law will not suffer detriment from the Society for doing so.
By accepting this Code each member affirms that the standards above are their personal commitment to the public, to clients, employers, and to fellow members of the profession.
