# Terms of Service
_Effective 23 May 2026 · The Actuarial Society of Kenya_
## 1. Who we are
The Actuarial Society of Kenya ("TASK", "we", "us") is the professional body for actuaries practising in Kenya. We operate this online membership platform at `actuarieskenya.or.ke` and its subdomains.
## 2. Your account
Your account is personal to you. You agree to:
- keep your sign-in credentials confidential;
- enable multi-factor authentication once it becomes available on your account;
- notify the Secretariat promptly if you suspect unauthorised access;
- keep your contact details current so renewal, election, and certification notices reach you.
You may close your account at any time from **Profile → Security → Delete my account**. A 14-day grace period applies; CPD records, audit log and payment history are preserved as required by law and the Society by-laws.
## 3. Membership categories, fees and renewals
Membership categories, the fees attached to each, and the annual renewal cycle are governed by the Society by-laws. The platform displays the current fee at the moment your renewal is opened; that figure is the binding amount even if the schedule subsequently changes.
Failure to renew within sixty (60) days of the due date will transition your account to `lapsed`. Re-activation may attract a reinstatement fee at the Council's discretion.
## 4. Payments
We accept M-Pesa (Safaricom), Pesapal (card + mobile money), and manually-reconciled paybill receipts. Provider fees passed through to you are itemised at checkout. We are not the merchant of record for card transactions — Pesapal is — and your card data does not pass through our servers.
Refund requests for renewals or event bookings should be made within fourteen (14) days of payment by opening a support ticket. Determinations are at the Secretariat's discretion in line with the Society by-laws.
## 5. Events, conventions and bookings
Event bookings are confirmed only on successful payment. Cancellations more than seven (7) days before the event are refundable less a 10% administration fee; closer cancellations are at the convenor's discretion. Tickets are transferable between TASK members through the Secretariat.
## 6. Code of professional conduct
By using the platform you reaffirm your commitment to the **Code of Conduct of the International Actuarial Association**, the supplemental rules of TASK, and the standards of integrity, competence, and confidentiality they impose. Conduct complaints follow the disciplinary procedure published separately.
## 7. Acceptable use
You may not:
- impersonate another member, the Society, or any official;
- attempt to disrupt the platform, bypass authentication, or access data you have not been granted;
- use directory information for bulk marketing, recruiting, or non-Society purposes;
- post content that is unlawful, defamatory, or in breach of professional standards.
We may suspend an account showing signs of compromise or breach pending investigation.
## 8. Intellectual property
The TASK name, logo, magazines, certificate templates, and platform code are owned by the Society. Members may share their own profile, certificates, and CPD records freely; reproduction of other Society material requires written permission.
## 9. Liability
The platform is provided "as available". We will use reasonable skill and care to keep it running, but make no warranty that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any purpose beyond Society business. To the extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability to any member in any twelve-month period is limited to the membership fees paid in that period.
## 10. Changes
We will publish material changes here and, where reasonably possible, prompt you to re-accept before continuing to use the platform. Routine clarifications take effect on publication.
## 11. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya. Disputes will be resolved by the Society's grievance procedure first and, failing that, by the courts of Nairobi.
